Bee ling and Mabel were at the sports centre, waiting for their turn to climb the rock wall. The queue in front of them moved slowly. This gave Mabel time to watch how the climbers put on their safety harness and where they put their feet as they made their way up the wall.
The more Mabel watched, the more nervous she got. She imagined herself losing her grip at the top of the wall and plummeting all the way down. Finally, she turned to her friend and said, “I don’t think I want to do this anymore. What if I get stuck halfway or fall down?”
“You won’t fall,” Bee Ling assured her. “See? There’s a rope attached to the harness.”
Mabel was still scared. She wavered between staying in the line and stepping out, but when her turn came, she put on the harness bravely.
“If I don’t try, I won’t know if I ’ll be able to do it,” She said to Bee Ling with a tentative smile.
